Auctions are one of the most exciting ways to shop on Zurgle. They give you the chance to pick up something special – sometimes for well below its usual price. If you have never bid on an online auction before, this guide explains how it all works.
How an auction works
Each auction listing has a starting price and an end date and time. While the auction is live, any approved buyer can place a bid. Every new bid must be higher than the current one, and the product page always shows the current bid, the number of bids and how long is left.
When the timer reaches zero, the highest bidder wins – provided their bid meets any reserve price the seller has set.
What is a reserve price?
Some sellers set a hidden minimum, called a reserve price. If bidding ends below the reserve, the item is not sold. You will see on the listing whether a reserve has been met, so you always know where you stand.
Placing your first bid
- Open the auction and read the description and photos carefully.
- Check the seller’s store and the time remaining.
- Enter your bid amount and confirm.
Your bid is binding: if you win, you are committing to buy the item at that price. Only bid what you are genuinely happy to pay.
Getting outbid
If another buyer places a higher bid, you will receive a notification. Don’t panic – you can return to the auction and bid again as long as it is still running. Many auctions see the most activity in their final hours, so the Ending Soon page is worth keeping an eye on.
Keeping track of your auctions
Everything you are bidding on lives in My Account → My Auctions. There you can see which auctions you are currently winning, which you have been outbid on and which have ended.
You won – what now?
Congratulations! When you win, you will be notified and the auction moves to your Awaiting your payment list on your Overview page. A countdown shows exactly how long you have to complete payment.
This payment window matters. If payment isn’t completed before the countdown runs out, the win is cancelled and the seller is free to relist the item. Please only bid when you are ready to pay promptly.
Buy Now on auction items
Some auctions also offer a Buy Now price. If you would rather not wait, you can purchase the item immediately at that price, which ends the auction.
Smart bidding tips
- Set a limit before you start. Decide the most you are willing to pay and stick to it.
- Factor in the full price. Prices on Zurgle include the seller’s shipping, so what you bid is what you pay for the item.
- Watch the clock. Use your wishlist to keep track of auctions you are interested in.
- Ask before you bid. Unsure about something? Contact the seller first – it’s much easier than sorting it out after you win.
Happy bidding, and good luck with your first win!
